Runner Ray Farinella named ‘Student-Athlete of the Week’ at Warwick Valley High School

WARWICK — Ray Farinella, the senior cross country and track and field star who was part of the 4 X 800 Meter relay team that won the NYSPHSAA State Championship one week ago at Cornell University, has been named Warwick Valley High School’s “Student-Athlete of the Week” under the program sponsored by the Bill Garcia Allstate Insurance Agency.

Ray is a two-time All-American in the distance medley and was the 2012 county champion in the 1000 meters and the Section Champion in the 1000 meters and the mile during the 2011–12 indoor track season.

Ray’s best split in the 800 meters is a blazing 1:55.9 which has attracted the attention of many collegiate track and field coaches, including those from Binghamton, Lehigh and Albany.

Ray is an excellent student whose overall average is a 94.7 while taking a challenging course load including AP Biology and the SUNY Orange calculus course.

He also is a four-time section 9 team champion in Cross Country and will be an athlete to watch this spring.

Ray is the son of Silvia and Ray Farinella of Warwick. His younger sister Gina is a ninth grader in the Warwick while his older sister, Alessa , is a 2011 graduate of Warwick now who attending Berkley College.
