— Junior Darby Ginley has been named Warwick Valley High School’s “Student–Athlete of the Week” under the program sponsored by the Bill Garcia Allstate Insurance Agency.

Darby and teammates Megan Reilly, Agnes Eigo and Katie FitzGerald finished second at the state track and field championships this weekend at Cornell University in Ithaca. Their 4 X 800 meter relay team ran 9:21.48, finishing six-tenths of a second behind state champion Bronxville.

Darby also ran the 1,000 M in 2:57.6 at the state meet with the third fastest time ever by a Warwick female (behind Tori Pennings and Lillian Greibesland).

At the Milrose Games at the Armory the previous weekend, Darby ran a school record 2:16 opening leg 800 meters of the 4x 800 meter relay.

The young athlete is one of the top junior track prospects in the state and is a three-time medalist at the state championship for indoor and outdoor track.

A six-time state Scholar–Athlete (90 average or better in season), Darby was recently inducted to the Warwick Valley High School’s chapter of the National Honor Society.

Her grade point average during the indoor track season was 96.8 for a course load that included SUNY Orange College Algebra II/Trigonometry, AP United States History and AP Biology.

Darby is the daughter of Patrick and Cathy Ginley of Warwick. Her brother Shane is a freshman at Binghamton University.
