Runner Dan Kelly named as Warwick Valley High School’s ‘Student–Athlete of the Week’

Warwick — Sophomore Dan Kelly has been selected as the Warwick Valley High School “Student-Athlete” through the program sponsored by the Bill Garcia Allstate Insurance Agency.

The indoor track standout took first place in three events to help the Wildcats win the division title for boys’ indoor track. Dan won the boys 600-meter run with a time of 1:27.5, won the 300-meter run with a time of 36.9 and was on the winning 1,600-meter relay team with a split of 51.6 seconds over his 400 meters.

Dan is a three-season track and field athlete, competing in cross country, indoor track and outdoor track.

He already has been recognized by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association as a scholar athlete for all three seasons. He maintains an overall average of 91.5, with a challenging course load including Honors Spanish and world history for college credit.

In his limited free time, Dan volunteers for the Beautiful People, a charity that exposes people with autism and social disorders to activities like soccer and softball.

Dan Kelly is the son of Emily and James Kelly of Warwick. His sister Caitlin is a freshman at SUNY Binghamton and his brother Jim is a junior at Sienna College.
