Runner Aaron Peterson named WVHS’s ‘Student-Athlete of the Week’

WARWICK — Junior Aaron Peterson has been selected as the Warwick Valley High School’s “Student-Athlete of the Week” through the program sponsored by the Bill Garcia Allstate Insurance Agency in Warwick.

The track and field star and his 800 Meter Relay teammates (Ray Farinella, Grant Parrelli and Jordan Burton) won the New York State Public School Athletic Association’s state championship at Cornell University this past weekend. Aaron ran the anchor leg and a split of 1:57 as the teams’ time of 7:53 was tops for the public schools. The team from Shaker High School, from the Albany area,was second.

Aaron carries a solid 88 average in the classroom and is enrolled in challenging courses including Honors English.

He and his younger brother Daniel (freshman) were part of the fall cross country team that won the Section 9 title and finished fourth in New York State. He also competes for the school on the outdoor track team and specializes in all events from the 800 meters through the two-mile.

Aaron is the son of Bruce and Jennifer Peterson of Warwick. His older brother Stephen in a former standout Wildcat and is now a junior at SUNY Oneonta.
