GREENWOOD LAKE — The East Arm Rowing Club, located at 69 Sterling Road in Greenwood Lake, has broken ground for the start of construction on their new boat house.

With Greenwood Lake being the largest lake in Orange County, the rowing club has helped make Greenwood Lake become nationally recognized in the top 10 places to retire and row.

Established in the late eighties, the club purchased the property which had an existing storage building with limited space. It has been a long-standing dream to have a new facility designed for the club’s specific needs.

The new facility will be a two-story building with increased indoor storage space of singles, doubles and four-person boats. A second floor, when fully built-out in the future, will provide rest rooms, changing room, kitchenette and adequate space for training equipment and club and/or community functions.

The new building is being constructed by William Prol of Prol Development Corp. from Warwick.

The East Arm, Rowing Club was established as a center for rowing in the New York metropolitan area. The club is open to both seasoned and novice rowers of all ages for a well-rounded mix of athletes. There are programs for juniors, adults and seniors-masters. The club offers the use of its boats and provides internationally experienced coaches and competitors.

The club also hosts the Warwick Valley Varsity Crew and Tuxedo Varsity Crew, along with coaching support for North Rockland High School Crew.
