Greenwood Lake — The annual Greenwood Lake Challenge Rowing Regatta on Greenwood Lake has been scheduled for Saturday, May 20. Registration will be held on a first-come-first-served basis from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 25, at the East Arm Rowing Club boathouse. During the regatta, participants will be given rowing lessons by experienced club members, many of whom are competitive rowers and certified coaches. All participants must be competent swimmers, be able to lift at least 35 pounds overhead, and have a doctor’s approval. A notarized waiver and form will be required. At the end of the course, the novice teams will race each other for the coveted Sullivan Cup Title. There will also be separate races for East Arm club rowers and other area clubs on that day. The regatta has a fee of $75, and payment is required in full. In addition, East Arm will be offering a non-competitive, adult, “Learn-to-Row” program for those who want to row for recreation. The six week program will not conclude with a race. It will also be open for registration on March 25, with a fee of $120. Rowing is a workout that combines cardiovascular benefits with gentle strength training. Rowers of any age can enjoy the healthful benefits.
