MONROE-Tommy D's took the first game in the best-of-three A Division finals with a 9-1 win over J.B. McMinnions. Tom Gilbert continued his masterful pitching with a four-hitter and was helped by Chris Fico (three hits, including a three-run double) and Dave Krawczyk (two hits and an RBI). Kevin Pulsifer also contributed with two hits, two RBI's and two great catches in right field. Elsewhere in the playoffs: • Monroe Jewelers / Jay's Deli defeated TIS 8-7 by scoring four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to knot their B Division quarterfinal at a game apiece. • The Fat Boys rode an 11-hit fourth-inning explosion to defeat FGFP in the first game of their semi-final series, 19-1. Bob Klopchin pitched the win and was backed by three-hits apiece from Ron Schnell and Bob Casilli. Tom Partridge and Ben Roth each contributed two hits and three RBI's. Klopchin's pitching was backed by the flawless fielding of Fat Boy third baseman Lou Sorgenti, who had six assists and two putouts, a few of the spectacular variety. Game two was a highly spirited match up as FGFP tied their series with Fat Boys. Elliot Kornreich was sensational in pitching a 5-0 shutout. John Saffrun started things off with a three-run homer and Ed Quinn capped the night with a solo shot in the sixth inning. Great defense was the key to keeping Fat Boys at bay. • In the C division Final, CB Trucking defeated Nebrasky Plumbing 15-1 to take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series.
