Middletown— Underprivileged children at Braeside Camp in Middletown will no longer have to dodge 4-inch wide cracks in their court as they play basketball. It’s thanks to a $3,710 grant from Orange County United Way. Basketball and other recreational programs are a large part of the curriculum at Braeside, which hosts 160 sleep-away campers and 60 day-campers ages 7-11. With the children gearing up for the summer session and the basketball court in need of repair, the camp appealed to United Way for funding to fix the large cracks in the court’s surface. The cracks caused a major safety concern and would have prohibited the children from using the court. The grant from Orange County United Way will allow Braeside to have the cracks and damaged pavement removed and a sealant applied to the court’s surface.
