New York Bulls dominate in Delaware
Warwick - The New York Bulls, Warwick’s 13U travel baseball team, won nine games in a row in dominating fashion to take the championship at the Sports At-The-Beach Summer Classic in Rehoboth Beach, Del., last week. The Bulls outscored their opponents 112 to 34 during the week-long tournament and beat the Connecticut Valley Navigators in the championship game 14-6. Christian Graven was the game’s MVP with three doubles and four RBIs. Matt D’Ercole gave the Bulls the lead for good with a fifth inning two-run double after the game had been tied at 6. Dylan Johannink picked up the victory, closing out the game with three strong innings pitched. The Bulls batted .481 as a team and were led by team captain Nick Gurda, who batted .593 with seven extra base hits, including a 340-foot home run. Jimmy Cattani batted .500 and played a solid centerfield. Tommy Delaney, who also batted .500, had a number of clutch hits. The Bulls arsenal of offensive weapons included Eric Oliver, who batted .682 with 13 RBIs; Michael Cogliano, who hit .591; and Johnny Dockins who batted .444 with 11 RBIs from the leadoff spot. The Bulls received great pitching support from Sean Prell, who picked up two wins during the week. The Bulls also received solid contributions from Michael Balacco, Alex Capiaghi, Vincent Ercolino, Kyle Morgan and Steve Vignola, who all had their moments to shine in the Delaware sun.
