MSG Varsity has released its preliminary list of players to watch in the Hudson Valley, including 20 football players in Section 9. Among the sports Web site’s assessments were:

Warwick Valley
Brad Garcia, Sr., QB, Warwick: The gifted athlete split time at receiver and quarterback last season but will be full time under center this fall. He will be more of a runner than passer.

Cornwall
Chris Bauer, Cornwall: The Dragons lost a few talented receivers to graduation but expect a huge year out of Bauer, who caught 29 passes for 512 yards and eight TDs last season.

Moiset Santos, Sr., LB, Cornwall: The Dragons have so much talent to replace on defense but will center things around Santos, who had 54 tackles last season.

Mike White, Sr., QB, Cornwall: The numbers White put up last season were just silly. He passed for 2,674 yards and 28 touchdowns for the Class A state semifinalists and earned MSG Varsity Section 9 Player of the Year honors.

Lawrence Young, Sr., RB/DB, Chester: Young could lead Section 9 in rushing this fall after steadily improving last fall. He’ll also look to lead the Hambletonians to the state tournament for the fourth straight year.

Monroe-Woodbury
Kevin Carr, Sr., QB, Monroe-Woodbury: The veteran guided the Crusaders to the Section 9 final last season, going over 1,200 yards passing and 1,000 rushing. He’s out to end the program’s two-year title drought.

Nick Dillon, Sr., C, Monroe-Woodbury: There might not be a more talented lineman in the Hudson Valley this fall than Dillon, a first-team all-MSG Varsity pick and third-year starter.

Cole Gennett, Jr., RB/LB, Monroe-Woodbury: Don’t be shocked if Gennett is among the biggest names in Section 9 by midseason. He was a force at linebacker who’ll see increased time running the ball this season. His potential is limitless.

Ricky Giraldo, Sr., RB/WR/DB, Monroe-Woodbury: Few players can fly around the field like Giraldo, who’s one of the elite two-way players in the region.

Rob Kelly, Sr., DL, Monroe-Woodbury: The hardest-hitter and potentially the toughest player in Section 9. Kelly is a 6-foot, 240-pounder who commands double teams.

Newburgh
Anthony DuBose, Jr., RB/DB, Newburgh: A third-year player, DuBose has the skill set and speed to be an all-state player. A major Division I recruit, DuBose is poised to live up to all his potential.

Donovan Fields, Jr., QB, Newburgh: With all the ups and downs in NFA’s season last year, Fields was a constant at quarterback. If he gets consistent play up front, he’s primed for another big year.

Jalen Williams, Sr., DB, Newburgh: Williams has already committed to play for the University of Pittsburgh. He’ll certainly build off his 56 tackles and five interceptions of last season.

Others to watch
Pat Dorrian, Sr., QB, Kingston: The Tigers will be in every game this season strictly by the way Dorrian can fling the ball. He passed for 1,615 yards and 16 TDs last season in just nine contests.

Mike Martin, Sr., RB/DB, Pine Bush: The explosive back will be the featured runner after serving as the big-play threat for the Class AA champions. He’s up for the challenge.

Matt Przybocki, Jr., QB/RB/DB, Burke Catholic: A breakout player last season, Pryzbocki is among the top athletes in the section. He rushed for 981 yards and 16 touchdowns as a running back but will move to QB. He also had 60 tackles on defense.
