Monroe Senior Softball League results through Sept. 22
Monroe - Tommy D’s defeated Budweiser 16-9 in game three of their best-of-three semi-final A Division series. The offense featured home runs from Nick Sansalone, Dave Krawczyk and John Lawson. John Davidson contributed three big hits while scoring three runs and Kevin Pulsifer reached base and scored in three of his four plate appearances. Mike Walsh added two hits and Tom Lucardi knocked in a pair of runs. Dave Laney tripled in the fifth inning to start the four-run rally to support winning pitcher Tom Gilbert. For Budweiser, Scotty Morrison had a grand slam and Chuck Todd, Victor Quinton and John Hughes all homered. Tommy D’s had evened the series by defeating the Bud Boys 18-3. The offensive barrage was led by Sansalone (home run, three RBIs), Krawczyk (home run, three RBIs), Davidson (three hits, three runs, two RBIs) and Lawson (three RBIs). Lucardi chipped in with two hits and three RBIs and Pete Deleo scored three runs to go with his two hits. Tommy Gilbert pitched a masterful game, holding the potent Bud bats to five hits and three runs. In game number one, Dave DeGrote of Budweiser and Gilbert were locked in a close duel for the first few innings with Tommy D’s scoring two runs to jump out 2-0. Scott Morrison then hammered a three-run blast to put the Bud Boys on top in the 4th inning. D’s then scored a run in each of the fifth and sixth innings to take the lead only to see it evaporate in the sixth behind Morrison’s base hit and Quinton’s RBI double, which proved to be the game winner in the 5-4 Bud Boys win. In the other A Division semi-final series: The Afterdeck used a four-run fourth inning to come from behind and defeat J.B. McMinnions by the score of 5-3. In the inning, Joe Picone smashed a two-run double and the scored on a double by Anthony Rizzi. Bruce Weyant then singled in Rizzi to give The Afterdeck a 4-3 lead. Papo Rodriguez picked up the win, throwing five solid innings, and Dan Henderson picked up a save with two scoreless innings. Scott Goldstein, Dan Henderson and Bruce Weyant had two hits apiece for The Afterdeck. Weyant also had the play of the game with an unassisted double play in the sixth. In the second game, J.B. McMinnions fought off elimination with a 10-9 win over the Afterdeck. J.B.’s 16-hit attack was led by Jon “Sega” Lebda (three hits, including a triple), Jerry Jefferson (three hits), Bob Guggisberg (two hits, home run) and Brian Wallace (two hits, triple). Mike Dowen was able to get the win despite the heroics of the Brothers Rizzi (three home runs, 9 RBIs). Matt Zepf and Paul Kowalski played stellar infield defense to secure the win. CB Trucking defeated Wallace & Berry Insurance to sweep the semifinal B Division playoff. Tom Valdez pitched the Truckers to the win. Bill Paladino led the offense with two hits and scored two runs, Bruce Abrignani and Abid Acosta each chipped in with two hits, two RBIs, and one run scored. Pete McGarty scored two runs. John Thuman was 3-3 for Wallace & Berry. In game one, CB Trucking defeated Wallace & Berry by a score of 14-8. Valdez was the winning pitcher. John Safrin was 3-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Bruce Abrignani and Peter McGarty each had two hits and scored two runs. Mike Gannon contributed two hits and two RBIs. Neil Riordan hit a long home run for Wallace and Berry. Neil Hoyt pitched a gem to send Loyal Tire to the championship game and Mike Gregory was spectacular at third base, making a fine play on the final out to preserve a one-run lead in the 4-3 win over Master Chimney. In game one, Loyal held off Master Chimney 13-10. The Brazen Head held off a late charge by FGFP to score a 13-10 victory and take a one game lead in the best of three C Division playoff series. Rob Almodovar led the way with several outstanding defensive plays. Jesse Blattstien recorded the win. After a very poor showing in last week’s playoff opener, FGFP reverted back to their winning ways by defeating Brazen Head Pub 23-9 to even up the best-of-three series at a game apiece. Numerous heroes were responsible for this amazing offensive display, including Eddie Quinn (4-4, three runs), Mike Magillo (3-3, two RBIs) and Walt Popailo (3-4, including a double, three, two RBIs). Elliot “K” (2-2, two runs, two RBIs) provided enough stability on the mound to allow FGFP to even out the series. And in a stunning display of defensive prowess, Paul “Brooks” Baum was stellar at the hot corner, preventing at least five runs by flashing the sticky leather. In the C Division playoff series, Nebrasky completed its improbable sweep of Pro Motion with another come-from-behind win. Tom Fallon, Ray Klopchin and Gary Cole all had three hits. Mike Wolfe went the distance for the win. In the first game, Nebrasky scored a come-from-behind upset of Pro Motion with a run in the seventh inning. Len Reiss and Kevin Fisher had three hits.
