Monroe Senior League results through June 23
Monroe - There were only six games last week, as three games were lost due to the rain. Another chapter in the storied rivalry between JB McMinnions and Tommy D’s was written Wednesday night when John Macchia hit a walk-off three-run home run in the bottom of the eighth to give JB’s the 9-8 win. After trailing most of the game, Tommy D’s came back from 4-0 and 6-4 to tie the game with two in the top of the seventh. Tommy D’s then took the lead 8-6 with two runs in the top of the eighth before Macchia’s dramatics. The winning blast was sweet for Macchia, who was placed on waivers by Tommy D’s (then Daddy Mac’s) after the 2003 championship season. Mike Dowen pitched eight strong innings for the win to up JB’s record to 4-1. In other league action: Pro Motion defeated Monroe Temple 22-2 in five innings. Warren Clendemy and Eric Mayfield continued to be hot with their bats, hitting home runs, and Al Hall went 4-4 and got the win in his first start. Dino Patrikis pitched the Brazen Head to a 16-5 victory over Monroe Temple. Mike Clavell, Artie Flora, Rob Raab and Len Froio were among the offensive and defensive leaders. Budweiser added to its lead with two more two-run homers by Timmy O Malley and Mike Torre. Scotty Morrison extended his hitting streak to five games with a double. Budweiser continued to play solid defense while holding the tough-hitting Loyal team to just one run. The defensive play of the game occurred in the second inning when Jim Hogencamp led off with a blast to right center field that Victor Quinton ran down, threw a quick strike to cut-off man Chuck Todd, whose relay to Rad Gonzalez pegged Hogencamp at third base.
