Monroe Senior League results through June 16
Monroe - Dan Henderson had a night for the ages when he went 5-5 with five home runs 13 RBIs and five runs scored in what was likely the greatest single-game performance in the history of the Monroe Senior Softball League. Scott Goldstein, who also was 5-5 with a home run, four RBIs and five runs scored, and Rob Smith, who went 4-5 with a home run, five RBIs and four runs scored, led The Afterdeck to a 28-1 victory over Master Chimney. Papo Rodriguez got the win for The Afterdeck. In other league action: Nick Sansalone and Dave Krawczyk hit back-to-back home runs to lead Tommy D’s past Monroe Jewelers/Jay’s Deli 11-4. Dave Laney had two hits and two RBIs to lead the offense. Tommy Gilbert and Sansalone combined to pitch the win. After giving up three runs in the top of the first inning to C.B. Trucking, Budweiser tightened behind Dave Degrote’s solid pitching and a Web jem of a double play by utility infielder Frankie Moore. The final score was 9-3. With a man on second base in a 3-3 tie, Moore went into short left field to catch a fly ball and spun around and threw to Brian McMonegal covering second to end the inning. Alex Jameison, in his first game back from last year’s injury, went 2-3 as did Manager Johnny Grasso in a rare start at first base. Scotty Morrison extended his hitting streak to four games and the rest of Team Budweiser had at least one hit. The Captains Table won their third straight game, 9-4, over CB Trucking. John Murray had a three-run home run (his fourth of the season) to lead the offense. Ronnie Crover also had a two-run home run and Doug Campbell had two hits. Archie Manning was 3-3, including a double and triple. Kevin Gannon pitched well to earn the victory. Pro Motion won two games this week to jump into a first place tie in the C Division. In the first game, they defeated Billy Ball 13-3. Rich Hershner kept Billy Ball’s potent offense off balance, holding them to three runs. Al Hall hit a home run and Nick Santoro went 3-4. In game two, Pro Motions Bat’s came alive against the Brazen Head Pub. Exploding for seven runs in the first inning, the boys of Pro Motions never looking back in the 27-12 victory. Eric Yuneman was 4-5 with eight RBIs, which included three doubles and a home run; Al Hall was 4-5 with two home runs and six RBIs; and Ernie Spell was 3-5 with four RBIs. After the monsoon season ended recently, FGFP was ready to get back into action in week seven, meeting Monroe Temple for the very first time in the MSL. The results were a 20-3 win for FGFP. Heroes for the Black And Gold included Wally Popailo, who went 4-5 with two doubles, a triple and three RBIs; Tommy Meola (3-5, three RBIs); Bruce Fisher (3-5, three RBIs); and Dave Atlas (3-5, three runs). Elliott Kornreich (2-2, two RBIs) added to his already stellar season stats by holding the Temple to two earned runs over six innings. Brazen Head Pub beat Nebrasky 20-3.
