Monroe - Ron Schnell and Ben Roth hit back-to-back homers in the top of the eighth inning to back Bob Klopchin’s pitching and lead Master Chimney to a thrilling 4-2 victory over CB Trucking. Roth and Anthony Baggot helped Master’s cause with solid defensive efforts that spoiled the strong outing of CB’s Tommy Valdes. The boys from Master were further buoyed by the return off the disabled list of Dean “It Only Hurts a Little” Sefrin. His clubhouse presence alone should spark a return to B division respectability for the once formidable Master crew. In other league action: • Although both teams in this sponsor-battle were down key players, the Captain’s Table came out on top of the Afterdeck 10-3. Mike Neiman, Chuck Fernandez, Ron Velore and Ed Sayer chipped in an RBI each while Steve Dunn, Joe Cefola and Jeff Fleichman each drove in two RBIs each. Kevin Gannon pitched the win for the Table. • Ray Klopchin and Matt Blitz both went 3-3 and the tying run was thrown out at the plate to end the game as Nebrasky Plumbing beat FGFP 4-3 in an exciting game. • FGFP also battled the crew from Pro Motion this week and came out on top by the final score of 9 to 5. Meeting for the third and final time this season, the rubber game proved to be a back-and-forth affair through four innings until FGFP broke out with seven runs in the fifth to seal the win. The heros for this week were Rob Fancese (3-3, one run) and Eddie Quinn (2-3, two runs, RBI). Paul Perasso turned in a fine pitching performance, holding the division leaders to just five runs over the entire game. • The Brazen Head defeated Billy Ball 16-10. Dennis Leahy and Mike Clavell had key late game hits. • Budweiser defeated Wallace & Berry last week by a score of 10 to 7, with Dave Degrote winning his league-leading eleventh game in a row. Wallace & Berry jumped out to a 3-0 lead before the Budboys, led by Rad Gonzalez (3-3, two RBIs) and Mike Torre (game-winning grand slam and four RBIs) started to hit. Mike Chiracella continued to lead the team scoring by getting on base all three times and scoring three runs. Next up for the Budboys are two of its biggest rivals: The Evil Empire Tommy D’s and the season finale against the never-say-die Captains Table. • In other action, CB Trucking defeated Monroe Jewelers/Jay’s Deli.
