    Monroe - The Afterdeck dealt a serious blow to the playoff hopes of The Captain’s Table by scoring all four of their runs in the bottom of the seventh to win 4-3. Kevin Gannon and his infield defense were tremendous through six. The Table got a solo home run from reigning league MVP John Murray to take a three-run lead into the seventh when the potent Afterdeck bats finally awoke. Anthony Rizzi led off the seventh with a single, which was quickly followed by a two-run blast by Scott Goldstein to narrow the lead to 3-2. Dan Henderson then singled and James Rizzi doubled to the fence, setting up second and third with one out. After Rob Smith singled in the tying run, Lloyd Kurth was intentionally walked to load the bases for Mike Kelly. Kelly continued his late-game heroics with a long single over the drawn-in outfield to steal the win. Dan Henderson got the win in relief for The Afterdeck, now 11-3. In other league action: •Tommy D’s clinched fourth place in the A Division with an 8-5 win over the Afterdeck. Kevin Pulsifer led the offense with four hits, including a home run. Greg O’Connor hit a bases-clearing double in the seventh inning, which proved to be the winning runs. Chris Fico, Tom Forelli and John Davidson also contributed the D’s offense with two hits each. Tom Gilbert earned the win. •Wallace & Berry beat C.B. Trucking 17-1. John Curly led the way going 3-3 with a three-run home run. Dave Drucker and Kevin McGee each contributed three hits. Neil Riordan, Dale Miller and Mike Mullahy had two hits apiece. Rob McQuillen added a long home run. Steve Berry pitched another great game for the win. •FGFP returned from a two-week layoff to sweep three games this week and finish the season 12-3. In game one FGFP defeated the Monroe Temple 21-1. Game two saw old rivals go at it as the men in black and gold defeated the green and white of Brazen Head 9-2. It was 4-2 until the seventh inning when FGFP broke it open led by rookie Joe Spears, who had two hits and two RBI on the day, and the solid pitching of Elliot “Big E” Kornreich. Brazen Head played solid defense and showed that they will be a force to reckon with come playoff time. Game three saw the emergence of Larry “Crayola” and the continued resurgence of Joe Spears and Eddie Quinn as FGFP finished the season beating Nebrasky Plumbing 24-7. • In other action, Wallace & Berry defeated J.B. McMinnions 6-5, J.B. McMinnions nipped Tommy D’s 5-4 and Loyal Tire exploded in a 27-11 over Monroe Jewelers/Jay’s Deli. Tommy Dowd Memorial Softball Tournament The Tommy Dowd Memorial Softball Tournament will be held Sept. 6 through 9 at Smith Clove Park and the Monroe Woodbury Middle School fields.
