Monroe Senior League results through Aug. 11
Monroe - Budweiser clinched its first ever “A” division regular season title, beating archrival Tommy D’s in extra innings 8-7. Alex Jamieson pitched well in his first career win against Tommy D’s. After trailing by three after the first, the Budboys, led by Victor Quinton (2-3 and three RBIs), rallied for a 6-3 lead, only to have Tommy D’s eventually take the lead in the top of the eighth inning. The Budboys then got two straight hits in the bottom of the eighth inning for the come-from-behind win. The bottom of the eighth hitting stars were Matty Casserly and Johnny Hughes. Other hitting stars for Team Budweiser were Timmy O’Malley and Rad Gonzalez (2-3 and two RBIs each). Budweiser stands at 12-2 and closes out its season against the Captain’s Table. In other Senior League action: For the second game in a row, Nebrasky Plumbing threw out the tying run at the plate in the bottom of the seventh to end the game as they beat Brazen Head 16-15. Tom Fallon had four hits, including a grand slam, and Rob Ross chipped in with four hits. Bob Courtney added three hits, including a double and triple. Pete Pisacano had a two-run homer and Neil Hoyt kept the big bats of J.B. McMinnions off balance as Loyal Tire defeated McMinnions 8-6. Shannon Gleeson drove in the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh inning with a bloop single to right. Hoyt held the McMinnions down in the bottom of the inning to pick up the victory. Wallace & Berry, trailing 12-4 in the sixth inning, came back to beat Monroe Jewelers/Jay’s Deli 16-15. Down by three runs in the bottom of the seventh, W&B scored four runs with a two-out two-run double by Rob McQuillan for the win. Dave Drucker and Neil Riordan led the way with four hits each. Steve Berry pitched the win. FGFP turned a tight contest into a runaway by scoring 13 runs in the last three innings to pull out an 18-12 victory over the Billy Ball crew. Dave Atlas (3-4, two runs, a double and four RBIs) and Johnny Santiago (3-3, two runs and an RBI) accounted for six of the 19 FGFP hits. Elliot K returned to the mound after a two-game absence to restore order to the pitching core and keep Billy Ball in check for four innings. The Afterdeck won two games, defeating The Captains Table 7-4 and J.B. McMinnions 14-5. Papo Rodriguez pitched the win in each.
