McMullen, Jones and O'Brien named athletes of the week
Central Valley - Two skiers and a basketball player have been named as Monroe-Woodbury High School athletes of the week over the course of the last several weeks. They are: Caitlin McMullen, tenth grade girls’ varsity ski team member. She was awarded the honor based on her athletic and organizational abilities in the sport of Alpine Ski Racing. McMullen has been a member of Monroe-Woodbury’s Alpine Team for two years, during which time she qualified and represented our school twice in Section IX Championships. Sara Jones, a junior on the girls varsity basketball team. Her offensive contributions in three recent games were outstanding. She scored 13 points at Washingtonville, nine points at the Newburgh game and then 17 points against Burke. Jones leads the team in scoring, averaging 15 points per game. Brendan O’Brien, twelfth grade boys’ varsity ski team member. He was awarded the honor based on his unassuming and hard-working attitude, as well as his determination to do his best in the sport of Alpine Ski Racing. O’Brien has been a member of Monroe-Woodbury’s Alpine Team for four years. Within this time, he has qualified and represented Monroe-Woodbury twice in Section IX Championships. After graduation, he plans to attend college at either Geneseo or the University of Sciences at Philadelphia. The Monroe-Woodbury High School Athletic Department recognizes a student or students each week who maintain a high degree of success in all areas pertaining to academics while also demonstrating good citizenship and outstanding game sportsmanship.
