M-W swimmers and divers expecting to make a splash in Buffalo

Central Valley - Members of the Monroe-Woodbury Varsity Girls Swimming and Diving team will be competing this weekend in the state championships in Buffalo. They are: • Ursula Jeska, who qualified in the state meet in diving for the third year in a row. • Sara Winston, who qualified for the second consecutive year in the 50 and 100 freestyle. • Taylor Diepold, Ashley Pinchinat, Sara Winston and Anna Jakubek, who finished third in the sections to qualify for the 200-meter freestyle relay. They also set the school record in the event. Jukubek also set school records for the 200-free and 100-meter breaststroke. Jeska also set school records in the 6- and 11-meter dives. The team also set the school record in the 400-meter free relay. The team finished the year with the most victories since 1995. Seventeen membes qualified for the Section 9 championships on Nov. 4-5; the team finished fifth. The team also finished fifth in the OCIAA championships. Many members of the team also completed the Anthony Quin one-mile swim in September. They also participated in the annual Breast Cancer Walk at Woodbury Common for the fourth consecutive year in a row. The team is coached by Justin Wright, Greg Voloshin and Jessica Wright.
