Central Valley - This year was a success for the Monroe-Woodbury Pop Warner cheerleaders and first time dance teams. At the county competition on Oct. 14, the Jr. Pee Wee team took first place and while the Pee Wee team captured second place. A week later both teams as well as the Midget cheerleaders each came away with second-place awards at the Northeast Qualifier in Utica. That qualified the girls for the Eastern Region Spirit Championship Competition on Nov. 18-19 in Trenton, N.J. While the cheerleaders were getting ready for regionals, the dance teams were competing in their regional championship in Trenton for a chance to move on the Nationals. Although they did not place, they expect the experience will serve them well next year. At the cheerleading regionals, both the Jr. Pee Wee and Pee Wee squads did well and the Midget cheerleaders received the bronze metal, the best a Monroe-Woodbury team has ever done.
