CENTRAL VALLEY - Last season Monroe-Woodbury made Section 9 history when they became the first class AA school to win a regional game when they beat Saratoga. Tonight the Crusaders (10-0) need to rescue the section once again when they travel to Kingston’s Dietz Stadium at 8 p.m. where they will tangle with the state’s second-ranked team in North Rockland. A spot in the state championship on the line. In four playoff games last weekend, Section 9 was outscored 147-27, each game resulting in a loss. “Anytime you talk about a North Rockland you are going to have a tough team in front of you,” said Monroe-Woodbury head coach Pat D’Aliso. “The program has kids all over Division I schools and in the NFL.” The Red Raiders (11-0) topped La Salle 22-6 last Saturday to earn the right to play the Crusaders after Monroe-Woodbury received a first-round bye in the state tournament. Last season, Monroe-Woodbury also was one win away from the Carrier Dome when they were routed by a New Rochelle team that featured three Division I football players, including Rutgers’ starting running back. Ray Rice. “I don’t think they are better than them (New Rochelle),” said D’Aliso. “If they were you would be looking at a college team. But I do know they are on another level than anyone we have played this year.”
