Local skaters win silver medal

Monroe - Nicole Prestia from Central Valley and Lily Sussman from Monroe, along with their “Ice Magic Synchronized Skating Team” members, win the silver medal at the “11th Annual Cape Cod Synchronized Skating Classic” in Bourne, Mass. Ice Magic placed sixth in their flight at the “2006 Eastern Synchronized Team Skating Sectional Championships” in Duluth, Georgia, on Jan. 27 where 1,600 skaters representing 101 teams from the East Coast competed. They will compete at the “Green Mountain Open” in Burlington, Vermont and the “Garden State Synchro” in New Jersey in March. Besides team skating, “Ice Magic” is composed of skaters that also compete individually. They must all pass USFSA figure skating tests and be selected by the coaches as one of 12 skaters to qualify for the team. The team practices from August to March and competes against many teams along the Eastern seaboard. In addition to skating, Nicole is on the Monroe-Woodbury High School cross country and ski teams. This is her fourth season skating with Ice Magic. Lily has been skating with Ice Magic for two seasons and would like to skate at the collegiate level after she graduates Monroe-Woodbury High School Ice Magic Team tryouts will be held in April at Ice Time Sports Complex in Newburgh and Westchester Skating Academy in Elmsford.
