Jared Olson is student-athlete of the week

WARWICK — Jared Olson has been named this week’s Warwick Valley High School “Student–Athlete of the Week” through the program sponsored by the Bill Garcia Allstate Insurance Agency.
The senior cross country standout and his teammates completed a record-setting fall season. Jared and his teammates won the Division, County and Section titles this year and finished fourth at the New York State Championships and then fourth again at the Federation Championships, which include all schools in the state including those in New York City.
A diverse resume
Jared carries an average of 99.1 and is ranked 15th in the class of 2013.
He is a member of the National Honor Society and has been recognized by the NYSPHSAA as a scholar athlete for cross country, indoor and outdoor track for four consecutive years (90 or better during the season).
Jared is a member of the Chamber Orchestra (selected All County for Band and Orchestra), and Eagle Scout and high school liaison to the Board of Education.
He attended Boys State Leadership Academy and also serves the district as a lifeguard and certified Red Cross swim instructor.
Jared is currently taking three classes for college credit (AP Spanish, AP Literature and AP Government).
The service academies
He has applied to the United States Naval Academy, United States Military Academy at West Point, the Air Force Academy and the Coast Guard Academy, where he plans to major in engineering.
The young man is the son of Kevin and Alice Olson of Warwick.
