Goshen Boys' Junior Varsity Soccer improve record to 10-2
Goshen The Goshen Junior Varsity Soccer Team improved their record to 10-2 by winning games against Pine Bush No. 1, John S. Burke, James I. O’Neill (Kingston), and Monticello, They also suffered their second loss of the year to Owego on Columbus Day. In the showdown with Pine Bush No. 1, Goshen overcame a 2-1 deficit at halftime to pull out the victory. Kevin Alders opened the scoring for Goshen at the end of the first half, and as the second half commenced, Goshen scored two unanswered goals through Chris Meaney. After Pine Bush equalized, Andrew Laskaris scored the game-winner from an assist by Daniel Esposito. Goshen then hosted John S. Burke, winning by a score of 5-0. Goals were scored by Chris Meaney, Kevin Alders, Matthew DellaVecchia, Ryan Leone, and Kyle Borisewich, with assists provided by Meaney, Alders, Borisewich, and Kyie Burnett. Chad Unger also made some important saves late in the game to maintain the shutout for Goshen. In the 3-0 win against Kingston, Goshen was paced by two goals from Kyle Borisewich and a third from Chris Meaney, assisted by Kevin Alders. Defensive support provided by Richard Long, Justin Lawrence, Robert Dolney, Chad Unger, Kenny Kelly, and Ernest Tietjen allowed Goshen to record its fifth shutout in nine games this season. In a high-scoring game, Goshen then beat James I. O’Neill by a score of 9-3. Kyle Borisewich, Matthew Kaufman, and Chris Meaney each scored two goals, with Ryan Leone, Alex Finkelstein, and J.J. McLoughlin adding one apiece. Kevin Alders, Andy Papadmitropolous, and Atticus DeProspo contributed assists. Goshen took the two and a half hour trip upstate to play Owego, only to lose by a score of 2-0. Fine performances were provided by Atticus DeProspo, Kyle Birdsall, and Anthony Vallone in the losing effort, Goshen’s second loss of the season. Goshen then rebounded from its defeat at Owego by traveling to Monticello and coming away with a 7-0 victory in a hard-fought game. Jeff Pennings opened the scoring from the penalty spot, followed by Chris Meaney and Daniel Esposito, who each scored two goals. Other goals were scored by Kyle Borisewich and Alex Finelstein, with assists from Ryan Leone, Conor Bumett, Kyle Burnett, Matthew DellaVecchia, Meaney, Esposito, and Borisewich. Defensive leadership by Justin Lawrence, Robert Dolney, and Ryan Dunnigan from the sweeper position led Goshen to its sixth shutout of the season. The Boys’ Junior Varsity team thanks parents for their continued support. In other news: On Friday, Oct. 13, the fourth annual Copa Di Monti was played at Mount Olympus. The team, captained by Chris Meaney and including Kevin Alders, Kyle Birdsall, Jeff Pennings, Chad Unger, and J.J. McLoughlin, overcame steep odds to upset the other teams and win the competition.
