Goshen Boys' Junior Varsity Soccer begins season with 5-1 record

    Goshen — The Goshen Boys Junior Varsity Soccer team began its campaign with a 5-1 record. Included were wins over Minisink Valley, Monticello, Pine Bush, Valley Central, and Cornwall, as well as a toss to the host team in the finals of the Delaware Valley Tournament to open the season. In their first invitation to the Delaware Valley Tournament, Goshen won its opening round game over a good Minisink Valley team by a score of 2-1. Andrew Laskaris and Atticus Deprospo scored goals, while Robert Dolney captained the team from the sweeper position to hold on to the lead. In the championship game of the tournament, Goshen was beaten by a very good Delaware Valley team 2-1. The lone goal was scored by Chris Meaney, with an assist from Kyle Borisewich. Shaking off the loss to Delaware Valley, Goshen was able to overcome Monticello 6-1 at home. Alex Finkelstein scored the first two goals of the game, while Chris Meaney added two later on. Also scoring were Kyle Borisewich and Kyle Burnett, with assists coming from Matthew Kaufman and Jeff Pennings. Andy Papadimitropolous and J.J. McLoughlin provided a high work rate in the midfield to transition the team from defense to offense. Goshen was able to record its first shutout of the season in its win over Pine Bush by a score of 7-0. The two Kyles — Burnett and Borisewich — each scored two goals, with one each coming from Chris Meaney, Jeff Pennings, and Atticus DeProspo. Assists were provided by Ryan Leone, Andrew Laskaris, and Kevin Alders. Kyle Birdsall and Chad Unger teamed up in goal to record the shutout. Goshen then followed up its first shutout by quickly securing a second as it beat Valley Central by a score of 9-0. Goshen exhibited dominance in the air as five of its goals were scored off headers from crosses supplied by its outside midfielders. Chris Meaney led the scoring with three goals and an assist, while both Kyle Borisewich added a brace. The Bumetl brothers — Kyle and Conor — each added goals, while Matthew DeliaVecchia and Anthony Vallone also scored their first goals of the season. Assists were provided by Andrew Laskaris, Ryan Leone. Atticus DeProspo, and Justin Lawrence. In a very hard-fought game, Goshen slipped by Cornwall by a score of 4-0. Goals were scored by Atticus DeProspo, Kyle Borisewich, Chris Meaney, and Anthony Vallone, with assists coming from Jeff Pennings, Matthew Delia Vecchia, Daniel Esposito, and Kevin Alders. The defense of Robert Dolncy, Juslin Lawrence, Richard Long, Ryan Dunnigan, Kenny Kelly, and Ernest Tietjen repelled a second-half onslaught from Cornwall to preserve the victory, as Kyle Birdsall and Chad Unger again teamed up in goal to record their third straight shutout. The Goshen Junior Varsity Boys would like to thank Delaware Valley for its invitation to the tournament. The team has upcoming home games against John S.
