Golf team advances with wins over Cornwall, Middletown

Warwick - The Warwick Valley High School Boys Golf team advanced their record to 3-0 with matches against Cornwall and Middletown last week. On Wednesday, April 5, Warwick defeated Cornwall at Warwick Valley Country Club by 16 strokes (204 to 220). Warwick’s team was lead by Jeff Smith with a 38. Solid contributions were made by Tom Garby (40), Ryan Metzger (41), Frank Mulzet (42) and Nick Schiavo (43). Cornwall’s low man was Nick Perry with a 42. On Thursday, April 6, Warwick (202) made a stronger showing against Middletown (268) at the Town of Wallkill Golf Club. “We’re excited to see the team scoring consistently low this early in the season,” said Coach Gary Weed. “Considering the weather during these two matches, the scores were admirable.” The low score recorded for Warwick was a 38 by junior Tom Garby followed by juniors Jeff Smith and Sam Ferrec, who both carded 39s. Senior Frank Mulzet (41) and freshman Ryan Metzger (45) rounded out the Warwick team’s winning score.
