Go Mileage Club: Friday Night Lights Half Mile Run

By Madi Olszewski
WARWICK — It was a crisp and cool fall Friday night down at the football field under the lights on Oct. 5.
The Warwick varsity football players were playing Goshen, the Warwick varsity cheerleaders were cheering and the stands were filled with fans.
It was perfect weather to run the Friday Night Lights Half Mile Run.
I was nervous and excited but I could tell that everybody else in the Mileage Club that were around me felt the same way.
We all began to walk down to the track at halftime to run our half mile (two laps).
A few minutes before the run we all were stretching our leg muscles as we prepared to start the race.
Then we lined up at the starting line.
“Ready. Set. GO!” Coach Kim Brady yelled.
We all began running, each of us trying to do our very best.
Three minutes and ten seconds later, sixth grader Caitlin Larney ran past the finish line in first place.
She was followed by fifth grader Janiya Chatman in a time of 3:13.12.
Then, in third place, came her twin sister, fifth grader Amiya Chatman, with a time of 3:13.53.
The rest of the mileage club runners finished shortly after.
At the end of run I think that everybody did a great job and was proud of themselves for running half a mile.
The Mileage ClubIf you're reading this you're probably wondering what Mileage Club is.
Mileage Club is an after school program for Warwick Valley Middle School students in grades five through eight.
We run around the track and we keep track of the laps we complete on a card that has our name and grade written on it.
For every two miles (eight laps) we complete, we earn a little plastic gold or purple foot to put on a chain.
The necklace just reminds us how long we have ran so far in mileage club.
All Friday Night Lights runners were happy and proud to check off two more laps on their cards when they finished the half mile run.
