Girls start with two wins in modified soccer matches
Chester vs. O’Neill, April 25 The weather finally cooperated, and that Chester bats came alive as the girls’ modified softball team played their first game of the season at home against O’Neill with great enthusiasm. Leading them to a victory of 17-3 was pitcher Dana Martin and her battery mate, Danielle Andomez. Dana faced 30 batters, giving up only 2 hits, striking out 13, and walking 6. Co-captain Sami Green and Nicole Rosenberg led their team with 2 RBIs, each while Dana Martin, Abby Cook, and Amanda Johnson had 1 RBI each. Co-caption Sammy Clarke, a threat in the batter’s box, scored a run while being walked 4 times. Jessica Lecesse also walked. Kassandra Leight, Alicia Mulvey, Brendina Kyles, Denise Cardinale, Danielle Somez, and Amy Systma scored, giving their team the additional runs that led them to victory. Codie Laden displayed outstanding defensive skills while playing left field, and Lisa DiBona demonstrated aggressive base running and hustle on the field. Chester vs. O’Neill, May 1 Dana Martin, with a 3.5O ERA, led Chester to a 18-4 victory over Greenwood Lake. Bats were flying with hits from Nicole Rosenberg, Denise Cardinale, Danielle Gomez, Sami Green, Christina Petrillo, Dana Martin, Lisa DiBona, and Stacey Skudera. Brendina Kyles brought the fans to their feet with an inside-the-park homerun. Aggressive base running was demonstrated with stolen bases by Amy Systma, Sammy Clarke, Danielle Gomez, and Kassandra Leight. Coach Lacinak’s girls are off to a good start and eager to play their next game.
