Editor’s note: In last week’s Photo News, this story incorrectly indicated the MWGSL was a league of soccer players, not softball. We regret the confusion. Central Valley — The Monroe Woodbury Girls Softball League will be holding a Family Night at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 10, and a Picture Day on Saturday, March 11, and a Spring Fling dinner dance fundraiser on Friday, March 24. During Family Night on Friday, March 10, novice, junior and senior players will receive their uniforms. T-Ball and instructional players will meet their manager and other players on their team. Registration will close, and unregistered players will be put on a waiting list, with a late fee of $15. For Picture Day on Saturday, March 11, players are reminded to wear their uniforms. As the team sponsors a plaque with a team picture, as many players as possible are sought for the team picture. Pictures will be taken in the Monroe-Woodbury Middle School cafeteria. A copy of the schedule is available at www.mwgsl.org, with two times listed by each team. Report Time is for players to fill out paperwork for the picture package they would like to purchase. Picture Time is when Hudson Valley Photographic Studio will take a team shot, and then individual pictures of girls who pick any package other than just the team photo. Pictures are optional, so players are not obligated to buy them. Payment will be due at report time, in the form of check or cash (no credit cards). n Scholarship fundraiser The Spring Fling dinner dance fundraiser will run from 7 to 11 p.m. on Friday, March 24, at The Inn in Central Valley on Smith Clove Road. A general membership meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. The event will include sit down dinner with a choice of prime rib, fish and chicken, open wine, beer, soda, cash bar, and a raffle. The dance will help to replenish the Hank Werner Memorial Scholarship fund, and celebrate the importance volunteers have to the league and the community. Each year, in memory of Hank Werner, a friend and former league member, the team awards a cash scholarship to at least one graduating high school senior who has played in the league and plans on continuing their education by going to college. Werner was a manager and coach, and was deeply involved in tournament team play for the league before a tragic automobile accident took his life. In the past, money for this fund has been raised by various means, including the Hank Werner Memorial Golf Tournament. The cost is $50 per person. Tickets will be available at Picture Day, or by calling 973-809-4068 or 774-3792. They will also be available at Valley Auto Repair on Route 32 in Central Valley, or through Eydie Lopez at RE/MAX Benchmark in the Old Glory Mall in Harriman. Seating is limited. No children will be allowed. Visit www.mwgsl.org for more details. The Monroe Woodbury Girls Softball League is an ASA chartered, fastpitch, recreational girls softball league.
