Senior Games to start Sept. 16 Goshen - The 23rd annual Orange County Senior Games, for men and women 55 years of age and older, will offer a variety of sports contests, recreational activities, and social functions from Sept. 16 to Oct. 7. The Opening Ceremony and Games Day on Sept. 16 will be held at the Thomas Bull Memorial Park in the Town of Hamptonburgh and will feature such activities as the Golf Putting, 8K Bull Run, Basketball Hot Shot, Crazy Water Bocce, Softball Hit and Throw and more. Lunch will be served and medals will be presented in the afternoon. The Calendar of Events is as follows: Sept. 16 Hamptonburgh Games Day Hamptonburgh 8K Bull Run Sept. 18 and 19 Warwick Bocce, Shuffleboard, Horseshoes Sept. 21 Washingtonville Miniature Golf Blooming Grove Bingo Sept. 22 Hamptonburgh Stony Ford Golf Tournament Sept. 23 Middletown Trapshooting Sept. 24 New Windsor Rowing Newburgh Washington’s Headquarters Visit Sept. 25 Middletown Card Party: Canasta, Pinochle Middletown Bowling Sept. 26 Chester Hike at the Bruderhof Chester Go Karts at the Castle Fun Center Sept. 27 Central Valley Woodbury Common Treasure Hunt Sept. 28 Cornwall Museum of the Hudson Highlands Nature Walk Mountainville Storm King Art Center Tour Sept. 29 Monroe Historic Scavenger Hunt at Musuem Village Oct. 1 Washingtonville Luncheon, Track and Field, Arts and Crafts, Trivia, Euchre, One-Mile Walk, Scrabble Oct. 7 Goshen Bridge at Glen Arden For the competitive events, seniors will vie for Gold, Silver and Bronze awards in the following age divisions: 55 - 59, 60 - 64, 65 - 69, 70 - 74, 75 - 79, 80 - 84, 85+. Some of the events will include a light lunch and others, refreshments. A nominal registration fee of $10 0 entitles seniors to participate in most activities. Additional fees are required for just a few of the events, such as golf, bowling, and miniature golf. The first 600 entrants will receive the official Orange County Senior Games T-shirt and a tote bag. The shirt is sponsored by WellCare and the tote bag by EPIC. The Senior Games is organized by the Orange County Department of Parks and the Orange County Office for the Aging in conjunction with a committee of senior volunteers and recreation professionals.
