Monroe — The first annual Friends4Michael Foundation Charity Golf Tournament will be held on Saturday, April 29, at the Mansion Ridge Golf Course in Monroe. Lunch will begin at noon, and tee off at 1 p.m. The event will raise funds for the Friends4Michael Foundation’s continuing effort to fight for a cure for pediatric brain tumors and provide support to families with children who have brain tumors. The fee of $250 includes full access to the driving range, a chance to win “longest drive” and “closest to the hole” prizes, a bag drop, a barbecue at noon, and a buffet dinner. Michael Kwinn, the son of Brigitte and Mike Kwinn, lived in Monroe, attended Monroe-Woodbury Middle School, and died from a brain tumor at the age of 14, in May 2003, after a 14 month fight. The mission of the foundation is to support children like Michael, and their families, to keep alive the spirit of Michael, and to increase awareness of the devastating effects of brain tumors on afflicted children and their families and to continue to fight for a cure. The foundation gives assistance to children afflicted with brain tumors and their families, provides support for charities which assist children with brain tumors, and provides grants for research on cures for brain tumors. Scholarships are also awarded to high school students who demonstrate the qualities and abilities which Michael possessed. Sponsors for the event at the Jack Nicklaus-designed course are sought, and donations to www.Friends4Michael.org are tax deductible. To sign up, visit www.friends4michael.org or call Mike at 401-8361.
