Warwick - Four members of the Warwick Advance - Joseph Englese, Ryan McManus, John Sgombick and Kevin Smith - have been selected for the New York State Development Team. And while the Avalanche play in the U12-13 age bracket of the East Hudson Youth Soccer League, all four Warwick players are 10 years old. The boys will begin training indoors in January through March at the Milton Sports Dome. After that, they move outdoors. Over the summer they are required to go to a camp which will help coaches identify players for the national team. Currently, these boys are on the New York State team. Tryouts began in early October in Purchase with approximately 40 kids from the Westchester, Rockland, Orange and Dutchess counties. Seven coaches evaluated the players on a variety of skills. The boys were then invited to a second tryout in Albany with about 100 or more players from the Albany area. This time, six coaches rated the boys on team work, passing, communication and ball skills and goal keeping. The third and final tryout took place back in Purchase, where Englese, McManus, Sgombick and Smith all made the cut.
