Former WVHS runner Prial earns all-Middle Atlantic Conference honors

Scranton, Pa. - Becky Prial of Warwick, a junior on the University of Scranton women’s cross-country team, has earned all-Middle Atlantic Conference honors for the third consecutive season for her performance at the league’s championship on Oct. 28 at DeSales University in Center Valley, Pennsylvania. Prial, a graduate of Warwick Valley High School, covered the wet and muddy 6,000-meter course in a time of 25:55 to finish fourth overall in a field of 132 runners. Her effort helped the Royals of second-year head coach Daphne Hoyt to a fourth-place finish in the 14-team field with 145 total points, which was Scranton’s highest finish since 2000. Prial has placed in the top 10 in five races, including a first-place finish at the Marywood University Labor Day Invitational on Sept. 2. She also finished fifth at both the Kutztown University and Husky (Bloomsburg University) invitationals in September. A two-time University of Scranton Athlete of the Week selection (Oct. 24-30, 2005; Oct. 9-15, 2006), she will compete in the NCAA Mid-East regional in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, Nov. 11. She has earned all-regional honors in each of the last two seasons by placing 33rd in 2004 and 35th in 2005. She has also been named to the Cross Country Coaches Association all-Academic team in each of the past two seasons.
