Five Warwick Ski teammates made Section 9 State Team

    — The Section 9 Championships at Hunter Mountain was a great success for the of Warwick’s Varsity Ski Team.
    Four of the women’s team: Simone Sullivan (10th grade), Julia Priebke (10th grade), Claire Priebke (8th grade) and Hallie Hansen (7th grade) are making up half of the Section 9 Team.
    One representative from the men’s team, Matthew Hansen (12th grade), placed third.
    Dan Keneally and Christopher Hansen also medaled in 11th and 12th place, respectively.
    Simone SullivanSimone Sullivan swept the Section competition, placing first in Section 9 and winning the gold across all four races. She is also the section’s division winner and is undefeated for the season.
    This will be Simone's third appearance in the NYSPHSAA State Championships. She has been racing at the varsity level since seventh grade.
    Simone also competes in the NYSSRA. She recently competed in the Empire States Games at Whiteface, representing Hunter Mountain and taking 13th place for the U16 division and 22nd overall for women’s slalom. There were more than 70 racers from throughout the state.
    Simone also runs varsity track and cross country for Warwick, making it to the cross country state championships as a freshman in 2017.
    She is a three-time time NYSPHSAA Scholar Athlete and academic honors student.
    Matthew HansenMatthew Hansen placed third overall in the Section, coming off a division win and undefeated season. This will be Matthew’s third time competing in the State Championships and will wind up his season with his sixth varsity letter.
    He will be headed to Clarkson University in the fall for engineering and will be playing lacrosse for the Golden Knights.
    Hallie HansenMatthew will be joined by his younger sister Hallie, who placed seventh at Sections and who is the first seventh grader to make the state team in a number of years.
    She is an honor roll student, an accomplished piano, violin, vocalist and drummer who also plays lacrosse, volleyball and skis for Mt. Peter’s USSA team, where she hopes to compete for the New Jersey State team in Gunstock, New Hampshire, in March.
    Claire and Julia PriebkeThe Priebke sisters, Claire, who placed fifth, and Julia, who placed eighth, have both been varsity team members since seventh grade. They also ski for Mountain Creek’s USSA team.
    Julia takes honors and AP classes, achieved summa cum laude during ski season and is a three-time NYSPHSAA Scholar Athlete. She also runs cross country for Warwick and races 420 sailboats competitively on Lake Ontario in the summer.
    She is an accomplished cellist and a member of the Warwick Junior Ambulance Corps.
    Claire is an honor roll student, is a NYSPHSAA Scholar Athlete and a member of the National Junior Honor Society.
    Claire has earned a position on the New Jersey State Ski Team for three consecutive years.
    Besides skiing, Claire enjoys running modified cross country and track for the Warwick Middle School and also sails competitively in the summer.
    State Championship at Gore MountainThe five members will be traveling to Gore Mountain on Saturday to train for the weekend and compete in the NYSPHSAA State Championships on Monday and Tuesday.
