GOSHEN — Five varsity athletics teams from the Goshen Central School District were named recipients of the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Scholar/Athlete Team Award for fall varsity sports: • Boys’ Varsity Soccer • Girls’ Varsity Soccer • Girls’ Varsity Tennis • Boys’ Varsity Cross Country • Girls’ Varsity Cross Country “As superintendent of schools and a former coach, this award reaffirms my belief that students perform better academically when they are involved with a positive co-curricular activity,” said Superintendent Roy Reese. “On behalf of the entire district, I would like to congratulate our athletes for their accomplishments on the field and in the classroom, as well as their coaches for instilling a sense of academic pride.” Varsity teams who earn a cumulative average of at least 90 percent during their sport season qualify for the athletic association award. The association believes that the athletic participation of students enhances their academic performances. To support this belief, the Scholar/Athlete Team Award program was founded in 1991.
