Florida — Clara Balacco, a fitness instructor with Sports, Fitness & Fun, placed second in the 2005 International Natural Bodybuilding & Fitness Federation’s Natural New York State Bodybuilding and Figure Championships, in the Women’s Figure Short Class category. The pro-qualifier event was held on Saturday, Oct. 15, in Poughkeepsie. Since its founding in 2000, the federation is the fastest growing drug-tested bodybuilding federation in existence. More than 3000 athletes now belong to this organization, where more than 35 opportunities exist for competition each year across the country. Clara has been with Sports, Fitness & Fun since its inception in 2000. She is a fitness instructor offering Spinning on bicycles, body sculpting classes, and personal training. A resident of Warwick and a 42 year old mom of three, she is pursuing a master degree at Hunter College in orientation, mobility and rehabilitation therapy for the blind and visually impaired. “Clara is an inspiration to us all, and especially to our young daughters and sons,” stated Roberta Kruse, general manager of Sports Fitness & Fun. “As we read the numerous stories in the newspaper about the dangers of steroid use among professional and student athletes, Clara, a successful drug-and-steroid-free bodybuilder, is a role model for our children.” The 41,000 square foot facility offers group classes for all ages through seniors, exercise equipment, personal training, Pilates instruction, gymnastics training, cheerleading programs, martial arts instruction, physical therapy, a pro shop, indoor playground, birthday parties and refreshments at Jonnie’s Café.
