Fire too hot to handle for soccer's Rhinebeck Riot

Warwick - League-leading Warwick Fire U12 boy’s soccer team recorded their fifth win of the season Sunday against the Rhinebeck Riot. A pleasant Sunday afternoon saw supporters from both teams turn out in numbers and they were rewarded with a fast flowing and entertaining game of soccer. The boys from Warwick, known for their slow starts, did not disappoint: During the first ten minutes, Rhinebeck mounted a number of strong attacks but the Fire’s stingy defense, which has only conceded six goals in seven games played, had little difficulty in containing the pressure. Soon the momentum swung to Warwick who retained it for the remainder of the game. In the 21st minute, forward Nicholas Diagle picked up a loose ball outside the 18-yard box and, surging toward the Rhinebeck goal, unleashed a right-foot shot into the Rhinebeck net. Soon afterwards, Rhinebeck fouled a Fire player just outside the penalty box and Nick Blomfield stepped up to curl the free kick into the top of the Rhinebeck goal, giving the goalie no chance. The second half saw more of the same with Fire goalie Matt Unick having very little to do but watch the game along with the supporters. The third and final goal came midway through the half when midfielder Blomfield took the ball down the right sideline, crossing the ball into the Rhinebeck goal mouth for midfielder Michael Bedross to score his third goal of the season. The Fire cruised to a comfortable 3-0 win and a record of 5-0-2 draws. The Fire plays next at Kingston, with three games remaining in the season.
