Fire crosses state line for another victory

Matamoras, Pa. - On Nov. 6, the Warwick Fire traveled to Pennsylvania and defeated the Eastern Pike team in a shutout, 3-0. On a full-sized pitch, Warwick kept the ball on Eastern Pike’s side of the field for almost the entire first half, making several attempts on goal. Finally connecting on a cross pass from Brian Allan, Nicholas Daigle scored from behind the Eastern Pike keeper. Allan and Michael Bedross kept pushing the ball toward the goal, but the Pike defense was aggressive in keeping the ball from finding the back of the net. In the second half and after switching goals, Fire keeper Matt Unick finally saw some action and made several good saves. The rest of the action, however, was at the other end of the field, where the Fire kept pushing the ball to the goal hoping to score another point. Midfielder Jamie Eigo finally saw his chance when there were no defenders on him. He rushed to the goal, faked a right and scored on a left cross into the net. Nicholas Blomfield then took a pass and shot, only to see the keeper fumble it. Rushing to the net Blomfield kicked and scored. Eastern Pike moved the ball toward Unick, but could not connect. The Fire travels to Goshen Sunday, Nov. 13, for a 1:30 p.m. game.
