Eight Black Belts promoted

WARWICK — Eight advanced-level students from the Karate Quest Dojo (with location in Warwick and Port Jervis) took and passed their promotional examination for various degrees of Black Belt in Okinawa Goju-Ryu Karate-Do.

Recognized for Sho-Dan (first-degree Black Belt) were Mackenzie Baird, Sean McBride and Aidan O’Connor. All of them are Middle School students in Warwick and have been training for about seven years.

Recognized for Ni-Dan (second-degree Black Belt) were Ed Ackerly, Brad Davidson, James McLaughlin and Savannah McManus. All are residents of Warwick and have been students at the Karate Quest Dojo for more than seven years.

Recognized for San-Dan (third-degree Black) was Marlon Motta, who is also one of the main instructors at the dojo. He’s been training in the martial arts since 1994.

The candidates are all students of Glenn Finke, who owns and operates both Karate Quest Dojo locations.
