Central Valley - Varsity cross country runners Carmen Milian and Kyle O’Brien have been named the Monroe-Woodbury High School athletes of the week. Carmen Milian is the number two runner on the girls’ varsity cross country team. A consistent performer as well as an inspirational leader, Carmen defines determination and hard work. And, in only her second year of cross country competition, she has an outstanding chance of making this year’s New York State Championship. Kyle O’Brien is the senior captain of the boys varsity cross country team. He placed fourth in the Orange County Cross Country Championships on Oct. 28, leading the Crusaders to a second-place finish. His time of 15:39.2 is the 14th fastest time on the Bear Mountain course. Undefeated in dual meet competitions, Kyle has not placed lower than sixth in invitational and championship meets. His work ethic has been the driving force in achieving his goals. Each week, the M-W Athletic Department recognizes a student or students who maintain a high degree of success in all areas pertaining to academics while also demonstrating good citizenship and outstanding game sportsmanship. The awards are announced by Principal Aldo C. Filippone.
