College holds winter baseball academy

LOCH SHELDRAKE — For those who miss baseball and don’t want to wait until spring training to play, Sullivan County Community College has the anecdote. The college will hold “Future Generals Baseball Academy” on Sundays during the months of January and February. The academy will be held in the Paul Gerry Fieldhouse on Sundays, Jan. 29, Feb. 5, 12, and 19. The rookie session for ages eight through 12 will be held from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The all stars session for ages 13 through 18 will run from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Under the direction of the college’s coaching staff, members of the Generals baseball team will offer practice workouts to improve players’ skills. Participants will be divided into groups, of four to six players. Workout activities will include live hitting, tee and soft toss instruction, base running, fielding, pitching and catching, and video and lecture presentations. Parents are invited to observe all activities. The fee of $80 for the five sessions includes a Future Generals T-shirt, a batting glove for first 50 registrants, a Future Generals membership card, a participation award, a skill development notebook, and an evaluation.
