Chosun Taekwondo Academy appoints junior instructors
WARWICK – The Chosun Taekwondo Academy, located at 60 Galloway Road in Warwick and currently celebrating its 21st anniversary, recently appointed six students to the position of junior instructor.
Most began their martial arts journey at age four in the KickStart Program, went on to benefit the local community as Leadership Team members raising tens of thousands of dollars for charitable organizations, and continued cultivating their skills as junior assistant instructors under the direction of Instructor Taylor DiMeglio.
During a brief ceremony held on the evening of Feb. 5, all six were officially promoted to junior instructors.
Appointees, ranging from 11 to 16 years of age, include Warwick residents Kayla Bele, Anthony Pellegrini, Thomas Magee, Dariel Patterson, Gregory Saucedo and Rocco Manno.
'An institute of higher learning'They will continue to be mentored by senior Chosun masters and instructors.
“Our school is viewed by martial artists around the world as an institute of higher learning," Chosun owner and head instructor, Grandmaster Doug Cook, 7th degree black belt, said in the press release announcing the appointments. "This is largely based on the research I have done to further the art, my authorship of many articles and four best-selling books on taekwondo, and our close association with the late, legendary Grandmaster Rhin Moon Richard Chun, one of five original masters that emigrated from Korea in the 1960s to promote taekwondo within the borders of the United States.”
A callingHe went on to point out that becoming a martial arts instructor does not happen by accident. It is a calling that requires, not simply knowledge of the physical components of the art, but the pedagogy, or method of teaching taekwondo successfully through the robust Chosun Instructor Program.
With more than 20 adult, certified black belt master instructors currently teaching at Chosun, students benefit from an accurate, comprehensive and traditional transmission of the art, coupled with the virtues and philosophical doctrines that govern its use.
