Chester — The Chester Hambletonians whipped the Webutuck Warriors on Saturday afternoon with a total score of 42-6. Coach Stover’s Chester Varsity football team is undefeated so far this year, and they are working toward their Section 9 goal. Chester’s offense soared and was led by Senior Michael Schmidlein, as all you readers should know very well. Each week, the Schmidlein show amazes everyone with his high rushing yards and uncountable touchdowns. Schmidlein is definitely a huge asset to Chester’s team and for another week deserves the title of MVP. Schmidlein ran 27 carries for 250 yards on Oct. 7 at the Webutuck field. He ran in 4 touchdowns and also tallied the score for 2 extra points. Schmidlein started hard in the first quarter rushing the ball up the field and keeping Chester in the game. Unstoppable Schmidlein ran the ball to Webutuck’s 27-yard line, followed by an amazing play by junior Quarterback Joe Salthouse. He threw a 27-yard touchdown pass to a speeding Kevin Jones down the sidelines. Chester fans roared as the scoreboard stated Chester was in an early lead. During the second quarter, Schmidlein still impressed fans with a 12-yard touchdown followed by a 35-yard run for yet another Hambletonian touchdown. Salty soon after spiraled a pass to Darren “The Mann” to spice up Chester’s lead. Mann oh Mann, Chester left the first half with a 28-0 lead. The third quarter was just as strong Steve Pasichnyk stung Webutuck with an incredible interception to put the ball on the Warriors’ 5-yard line. All Chester needed to do in order to secure another 6 points was to hand off the ball to their not-so secret weapon, and that is just what they did. Schmidlein ran in his third touchdown of the game and ended the third quarter with a score of 42-0. Even though Webutuck sneaked in a touchdown of its own during the fourth quarter, Chester held on to its victory with a score of 42-6. Chester surely washed out the Warriors. The Schmidlein Show had a total of 27 carries for 250 yards and 4 touchdowns followed by 2 extra points. Junior Quarterback Joe Salthouse went 2 for 2 with a total of 41 yards passing and 2 touchdowns. Senior Kevin Jones also played an excellent game with one catch for 27 yards and a touchdown, along with Darren Mann who had one catch for 14 yards and one touchdown. Some critics have been questioning Chester’s defense. They need not question any more as the Hambletonian defense allowed only six points. They crushed and totally dominated the Warriors. Chester did not allow Webutuck’s offense to pass the 50-yard line the entire first half. This crusade was led by Mike Benison with 7.5 tackles. Mike Schmidlein had 6 of his own, and Steve Pasichnyk had 4 tackles. Sophomore Danny Conklin made amazing interception to add to the impressive defense. He has a smooth transition to the varsity level and has become a great asset. On the road again, the Hambletonians will face the Class C Tri-Valley Bears on Saturday, Oct. 14, at 2:30. The following week, at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 21, at the Chester Commons, the Hambletonians will be home for their homecoming and their last home game against the Eldred Yellow Jackets.
