Chester 3 SS Seward 2 May 15 Chester and SS Seward had played each other twice going into a game that could be the deciding factor on which team would take the Division 5 title. Florida defeated Chester in extra innings in their first outing. Chester was victorious in the second game, putting up 5 runs to even the series. In their final meeting, Seward scored first when Mallory Matuseski doubled and then advanced home on a fielding error by Chester. Chester tied the game in the top of the fifth when Ciara Scrobe scored on Kayla Cabacungan’s suicide squeeze. Chester then took a lead in the sixth. Kristin Jung led off the inning with a triple and was driven in by Brittany Clifford. Seward responded in the bottom of the seventh with a lead off single by Michelle Dugan, who then stole second and third. With 2 outs, Dugan was able to advance home on a passed ball to tie the game. In the top of the eighth, Kristin Jung was hit by a pitch and then stole second. Brittany Clifford’s single to center field drove in Jung, giving Chester the lead. Seward threatened in the bottom of the eighth, but Chester’s defense was strong and was able to shut them down. Kristin Jung recorded her 11th win of the season, striking out 8. Caitlyn Rooney added a single for Chester. Chester 16 Tri Valley 6 May 17 Chester outscored Tri-Valley by a score of 16 to 6 in an OCIAA Division V game played Wednesday afternoon in Chester. Winning pitcher Kristin Jung (12-0) recorded the win allowing 5 hits while striking out 12. Chester’s bats were on fire. Amanda Benitez went 3 for 5 with a triple and 2 runs scored, Kristin Jung was 3 for 4 including a triple, double, 2 RBIs and 3 runs scored, Brittany Clifford 2 for 5 with a double, 3 RBIs and 3 runs scored, Caitlyn Rooney 3 for 5 with 1 RBI and 3 runs scored, Ciara Scrobe 2 for 2 and 1 run scored, and Danielle Englehart 2 for 3 with an RBI and 1 run scored. Amanda McCarthy, Jessica Lakis, Kerri Brosnan, and Kayla Cabacungan added singles for Chester 16-4 overall, 9-1 OCIAA.
