Chester honors scholar-athletes

The Chester Academy honored its scholar-athletes at a breakfast held at Kuhl’s Highland house in Middletown on May 11. Pictured (from left) are Mrs. VanDemark and her son Bryan, Chester’s male scholar-athlete; and Mr. and Mrs. McCarthy and their daughter Amanda, the female scholar-athlete. While achieving a grade-point average of 100.2, Bryan played football for three years and basketball for three years. He was captain of both teams. He is a member of the National Honor Society, Key Club, Varsity Club, Band, and Shared Decision Making Team. He is the American Legion Student Award winner and a Wendy’s scholar-athlete. He is president of both the senior class and the National Honor Society. He plans to go to Seton Hall to study business and finance. Amanda’s grade-point average is 96.03. She played soccer for four years, softball for five years, and basketball for one year. She was captain of her soccer team and is presently captain of the softball team. Amanda is a member of the National Honor Society, Band, Travel Soccer, and Travel Softball leagues and is presently in the New Visions program. She has received an academic scholarship to go to the University of Scranton, majoring in health and science.
