Chester — The Section 9 Class B Track Championships were held on Friday, Feb. 3, at West Point. Chester Academy participated, coached by Curtis Akacki. Kristin Jung, a junior at Chester Academy, took first place in the girls shot put, throwing 27’ 8 1/4”, to give her the shot put title. Jessica Lakis, a sophomore, placed sixth in the 600 meter run, with a time of 1:57.4. Senior Brandon Lawrence placed fifth in the high jump and sixth in the 55 meter dash. George Festl, a foreign exchange student from Germany, placed fourth in the high jump, with a jump of 5’6”. Senior Ryan Joyce placed fourth in the long jump, with a distance of 17’ 9 3/4”, while Sean Diedonne placed fifth in the same event. Andrew Scavera’s 36’ triple jump gave him a fourth place finish. Mike Schmidlein took fourth place with 7 seconds in the 55 meter dash. Justen Harrington finished fifth in the 1000 meter run, while David Markiewicz placed sixth in the 3200 meter run. The biggest disappointment was when Chester’s 4 by 200 relay team of Schmidlein, Joyce, Lawrence and Jeff Curtis posted their best finish of the year, with a first place finish and the section title, only to be taken away from them after they were disqualified due to a uniform violation.
