Baseball club to host baseball clinic

    WARWICK — The proper skills and techniques of fielding, throwing, batting, and base running will be the among the topics covered at the Warwick Baseball Club’s second annual Spring Baseball Clinic. Two sessions will be held on Saturday, March 4, in the gymnasium at Warwick Valley High School in Warwick. The morning session, for grades 8 to 9, will be held from 9 to 11:30 a.m., with an 8:30 a.m. registration. The afternoon session, for grades 5 to 7, will be held from 1:30 to 4 p.m., with a 1 p.m. registration. Warwick Valley High School Varsity Coach Mike Careccia, Assistant Varsity Coach Brian Nelson, and Junior Varsity Coach George Layng will conduct the clinic. Jim Telgheder of Hummingbirds, Dan Hummel of Frozen Ropes, and Warwick graduate Denis McLaughlin, formerly of the Red Sox and Braves organizations, will also volunteer their time. The cost of $35 per person includes a complimentary T-shirt. All proceeds will benefit the Warwick Baseball Club, in an effort to support school and community baseball programs for youth throughout the Warwick area.
