WARWICK — Basketball player Alyssa Caren is this week’s Warwick Valley High School “Student–Athlete of the Week” under the program sponsored by the Bill Garcia Allstate Insurance Agency in Warwick.

Alyssa has been a big contributor to the Lady Wildcats’ success in the 2013 season. She is the team’s top post player and averages seven points and five rebounds for the Cats, who defeated Middletown this past week to improve their record to 6–4.

In the spring Alyssa plays first base for the Warwick varsity softball team and Coach Shawn Myers.

Alyssa is enrolled in the New Visions accelerated law and government program and has earned a grade point average of 3.9 on the college scale (equivalent to 98 overall average). Her classes include English, macroeconomics and criminal law.

She has been named a NYSPHSAA Scholar–Athlete for the past two years and is a member of the Warwick chapter of the National Honor Society.

She has narrowed her college choices to Campbell University in Buies Creek, N.C., and Gordon College in Wenham, Mass., where she plans to major in social work and minor in pre–law.

Alyssa is the daughter of Tom and Kathy Caren of Warwick. Her sister Emily is a sophomore at Gordon College and was herself an outstanding student at Warwick Valley High School.
