Soil and Conservation District hosts annual tree and shrub sale

Middletown - The Soil and Water Conservation District is offering low-cost tree and shrub seedlings and a variety of wildlife products for sale at this year’s tree and shrub seedling program. As usual, all of the planting stock comes with bare roots. They are not potted nor balled in burlap, but wrapped in moist packing material only. This is a very successful, time-tested method of distributing large numbers of trees, shrubs and ground covers at low cost. This year the Conservation District is offering some extra-large seedlings and transplants that range up to three-feet tall. Per the public’s request, these larger trees are being sold in packs of five. The program also offers ground covers for sun or shade, fertilizer tablets and wildflower seed mixes as well as perennial flower bulbs and rain garden variety packs! Proceeds from the sale help support innovative educational activities offered by the Conservation District. Also available are a large variety of bird and bat houses, including Bluebird and Deluxe Bluebird Boxes, Wren Houses, Hawk Nesting Boxes, Wood Duck Boxes, Bird Feeders and Butterfly Bungalows. Call the district office at 845-343-1873 to request an order form and species description sheet. Information also is available via e-mail at chris.hopmayer@ocsoil.org or on the Web at www.ocsoil.org. All orders must be received by April 9. Seedling distribution days are Friday, April 20, between 1-4 p.m., and Saturday, April 21, between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. at Pillmeier Produce Farms in Florida.
