WARWICK-The Park Avenue PTA is hosting its bike and skateboard safety day Saturday, April 30, from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. Kids are encouraged to come to the Skatepark in Veteran's Memorial Park to have their bikes tuned up and learn some safety tips for riding their bike or board. Last year, the Park Avenue PTA had its most successful bike safety event ever with more than 1,000 families participating. Bill Robertson, also known as Dr. Skateboard, is slated to attend and perform two shows. He is bringing a team of skateboarders and stunt riders, and will give a safety clinic in between his shows. The Warwick police will recreate a traffic scenario, teaching kids hand signals, what to do at a stop sign, and how to interact with traffic. This is repeated throughout the day and anyone who completes the safety course can enter a free raffle for one of five bicycles, which were donated by Joe Fix Its. Volunteers from the Orange County Bike Club will also be on hand, giving free tune-ups, checking cables, brake pads and seat heights. The event is free. Safety helmets will be available for purchase, as well as food. This program is geared toward elementary and middle school aged children, but all are welcome.
