Sisters knit holiday” baby hats for birthing center at St. Anthony's

Warwick “You know us parents,” said Kim Corkum. “We can go on forever about our kids.” Warwick residents Frank and Kim Corkum are proud of their daughters Kayla, 10, and Alyssa, 7. “Since they have been old enough to understand,” said Kim, “they have had to do a good deed for others during the holidays.” She recalled the years they donated their favorite toys, purchased gifts for the needy through Warwick’s “Angel Tree” program, and even used their small savings to buy cat and dog treats for the animal shelter. Beginning this past summer, Kayla and Alyssa Corkum started knitting hats for the new babies that they knew relatives and friends of the family were expecting. By October, they decided to expand the program as their good deed for the upcoming holidays. They decided to knit “holiday” hats and donate them to St. Anthony Community Hospital’s Kennedy Birthing Center for their newborns. The nurses at the center accepted the donation, and now are looking forward to the planned follow-up, “New Year” baby hats. Approximately 550 babies are born each year at the facility, which combines modern technology with a family oriented atmosphere. For more information, visit www.StAnthonyCommunityHosp.org.
